This Dystopia SUCKS!!
Why Can't We Just Get Along?
For my glitch project I wanted to focus on the current, but certainly not new, social inability to get along. Within the last two and a half years I feel that there has been an increase in social unrest due to the destroyed normality that was once our world. I am very hesitant about glitch art due to the powerlessness I have when creating it, therefore I decided to create four images I would have control over that I would glitch.
My artist created for this project is an anonymous individual who creates peace works online and distributes them through different forms of social media. There is never an explanation for where or when the work is posted but all the work shares the same 70's hippie inspired aesthetic. Although there is not much of this individual's personal information distributed amongst the internet they have a large following, with many reposting work and searching for new work.
To create my... anonymous individual's... 16 images they decided to use a combination of TextEdit, Photoshop, and Audacity. First they created their control images in photoshop all with the same colors and patterned over and underlaid on images that represent peace. They then glitched them out in audacity using echo, normalize, and amplify which are all verbs they would like to associate with peace. Then they used photoshop and overlaid chaos to their peace and then moved pixels to represent the inability to perceive peace directly. They gave up my editing power to TextEdit with the same ideas as I glitched my photoshop images with. Finally their data mosh video was edited with riots and rallies surrounding Covid arguments and glitched them out to represent the idea that chaos is not helping anyone's voices. Although glitch is hard to control they feel they were able to create a cohesive aesthetic with a conceptual creation of work to successfully convey their argument.
